Antoine Sanchez...Who is that?

Stetson University, a small private university located in DeLand, Florida is home to multiple Division One sports. However, today we'll be straying away from typical Florida sport-lore, like football and baseball, and move to a court that isn't always in the spotlight with a special guest-Antoine Sanchez.

Antoine Sanchez, a native to the sunshine state and a Junior at Stetson University, started his tennis career at Sarasota Riverview High school. Tennis is near and dear to Antoine's heart. He fell in the love with the game after his father introduced him to it, playing with him on the weekends and turning him into the prodigal child every father wants their son to be. After becoming that beast and winning the Florida 4a State Championship in both singles AND doubles at Riverview High school, Antoine made his way to Stetson where he continued to produce extremely well for the Hatters. As a freshman, Antoine absolutely destroyed doubles play with 14 wins and only 3 losses. This performance landed him a spot on the Atlantic Sun Conference's (ASUN) All-Freshman Team. Powering through into his Sophomore season, Antoine found a lot of success in singles play, finishing with a 10-8 record and 9-7 record in doubles action. This performance landed him a spot on ASUN's All-Conference Second Team.

Unfortunately, like most college programs, the Hatters had to cut the season short due to COVID-19, leaving many athletes, like Antoine, twiddling their thumbs and leaving them nothing to do but practice even more in preparation for next season. Antoine's current training regiment consists of 2 hours of tennis finished off with an hour of fitness and lifting, squeezing in yoga at least three times a week.

With nothing but time on his hands, Antoine has been able to reflect back on his career and where he wants to take it in the next few years. One of his favorite moments was his freshman year, when Stetson absolutely destroyed Florida Gulf Coast University, somethings they hadn't done in 10 years. For the future, Antoine would like to pursue a professional career. He has the talent, the drive, and the dedication to do so, and look at this kid's locks. I mean come on, people need to see the mane that his kid is sporting. His lettuce is enough to get him on the cover of any magazine.

Beyond that, it was a pleasure hearing from Antoine Sanchez and we wish him the best in his playing career at Stetson and beyond. Stay tuned for more inside info on College Athletes from around the nation.
